Frugal Tip Of The Day - Walk to Save Your Life and Your Money

I'll be doing an entire article on this subject, but for now, if you live in a city where you can walk to places you need to go, or you have good public transportation, this is definitely the way to go.

Recently when my old, POS car died, I decided not to try to fix it, but to try walking and bike riding to get where I needed to go. So far, not much walking done, due to the heat, but there will be more when it cools down some. I'm getting my exercise by working in the garden and yard right now.

We are a nation of overweight and obese people, who do not exercise nearly enough. Even if the neighborhood grocery store is a block away (mine is about a mile), it's healthier and more cost effective than jumping into your car and driving 5 miles to the supermarket if you only need one or two things.

When gas was a little over $1 a gallon (that wasn't all that long ago, was it?), it really didn't matter much. Oh, to be back in those days, but we never will, so adjustments have to be made.

Some of you are hell bent on paying off debt and saving for retirement, but will you even be around for it, if you aren't taking care of your body? It's sad how so many people who are obsessed with making and saving money die at a young age due to heart or lifestyle related diseases. One thirty minute walk a day could add another 20 years to your life. Otherwise, all that money you are saving for your golden years will be going toward raising your children when you die at 40 or 50.

So get out and hoof it every day, buy that quart of milk from a local business (we should all support local businesses) and get healthier. It's thirty minutes a day out of your life, and you might just find out that you enjoy it. Think of it as an investment in your future.
